Arrest warrants are something you don’t even think about until you have one. Unfortunately, most people don’t even know they have one until they are pulled over for a speeding violation or are a witness to a crime. Right when the officer checks for identification, they pull up the person’s records and then they’re in a huge mess that isn’t easy to get out of. Others have an idea that they might have a warrant out for their arrest, but aren’t sure. So how do they go about checking whether they have a warrant, without asking the police or courthouse (for obvious reasons)?

Where to Go to Search For Active Arrest Warrants

Are you looking for a database of active arrest warrants? If you are, there are many different options for you to use, but not all of them are ideal. Some of them are publicly available and others are not. Some will allow you to search them online and some do not. Finally, if you’re looking for a comprehensive database that has all warrants nationally, you’ll be surprised to know that the government does not actually have one that is available to the people who aren’t law enforcement personnel.

Most states will offer the ability to conduct a free warrant search over the internet. This is protected under the Freedom of Information Act, however, there are some protections in place that may not allow you to search for the warrant or the person you’re looking for. How to Check For Outstanding Warrants For Free

Outstanding warrants have been public information for a few years now. Unfortunately, the system isn’t one hundred percent foolproof in that if you want to perform the search correctly, you have to put in quite a bit of effort to find and secure the information you need. If you know exactly where the person (possibly yourself) has the warrant outstanding, you can simply ask that locality’s courthouse if the warrant exists. However, there are a few problems with that.
